Women’s Health

We get Women’s Health

The weight gain, fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, lack of sleep, and hot flashes make you feel like a stranger in your body; and that’s the short list of symptoms. You’ve read 10 different books and they have all told you different things. Your doctor is great, but tells you your blood work is all ‘within range’.

Are we done with this yet?!

Women need a completely different approach. We can not eat or train like a man. Balancing our hormones is key.

Menopause symptoms are frequently treated as individual conditions, by 3-5 different doctors.  Women are often put on statins, anti-anxiety meds, anti-inflammatory drugs, and migraine meds, just to name a few, instead of hormone replacement therapy.  Estrogen controls inflammation in women’s bodies.  As it decreases during peri-menopause, systemic inflammation increases. This decrease can be offset by changes in diet, sleep and stress management, correct exercise, and HRT.

The majority of exercise and nutrition information comes from research and studies done with men, usually young men.  And guess what: exercising and eating like a man will not help you through this stage of life.

What is the overall AFC Philosophy on Women’s Health?

That women do too much!  In all areas of their lives.

We’ve been told for far too long that we need to eat less and exercise more; which is false.  We’ve been told that HRT is dangerous; which has now been debunked.  We’ve been told this is just part of aging; which we call BS on.

We customize nutrition and meal timing, training style and duration, stress management, and sleep health to help women navigate peri/post-menopause and all the symptoms that go along with it.  We are your trainer, coach, cheerleader, and sister-in-health for the long haul!

Who are the ‘Menopause’ experts we turn to for information?

Mary Claire Haver is unmatched for her open, aggressive approach to hormone replacement therapy.  She is also a rockstar for pushing back against the medical industry by offering so much information via social media, books, and on-line programs.

Stacey Sims in a PhD Exercise Physiologist and lifetime athlete.  She has researched women, yes women, for several decades and is leading the conversation on how women should train.  Spoiler: it is not like men!  She has an amazing blog and several very helpful books.
